I’m not sure that this is really politically correct, but the editors over at PopPhoto.com have taken the liberty of showing us what our current presidential candidates might look like in four years. Now, who am I to say, but I think they made McCain and Obama look the worst. McCain actually looks like he got hit by a truck. But I guess he is the oldest of the bunch, so maybe they got it right.
Charlene is getting baptized this Saturday, 4/19. I’m really excited for her. In honor of the count down, I’ve added a countdown widget to my sidebar.
If you’d like to come, but didn’t get an e-mail or an Evite, please post a comment, and let me know.
So this is a change you will hopefully have noticed. I’ve updated my permalinks to be more user friendly. So in your browser window, you should now see friendly text such as:

Welcome to my first recipe posting. Enjoy!
Lemon Freeze
(Makes three 1-cup servings)
3 C Ice
1/2 C freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 C sugar
- Fill a blender with about 3 cups of ice.
- Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the sugar.
- Blend until smooth.
Strawberry Lemon Freeze
For added flavor and variety, clean an remove the tops from 4 strawberries. After the mixture has been fully blended in step 3 above, add the strawberries and blend again until smooth.
Yesterday I wrote a post about my interest in writing a cookbook. I’ve decided that it might be a good idea to post a few recipes here for your enjoyment. I doubt I’ll be doing any video cooking shows like Kev, but you never know (if I ever change my mind, I promise I’ll wear a shirt. haha).
In the mean time, enjoy the recipes I post, and let me know how they turn out.
So I was talking to Charlene the other day, and I think I’m going to write a cookbook. It’ll be a work in progress. I don’t have many recipes at this point…maybe a dozen or so. But it will grow as I grow in my cooking skills and “Alton-like” abilities.
I guess the whopping 21.1 megapixels of the relatively new EOS-1Ds Mark III aren’t enough for some people. Apparently, Nikon might be brewing a 24.4 MP DSLR, and Sony is also looking at a 24.6 MP beast.
Seems kinda nuts to me. I don’t know what anyone would do with all those pixels. That’s not to mention where they’re planning to store all that data. I mean, even with my 10.1 MP Rebel XTi generates ~3.5 to ~4 megabyte pictures (JPG). If I shoot RAW, that number more than doubles to almost 10MB.
People are definitely going to have to shell out the cash for some 16GB cards or something. And even then, those are going to fill up pretty darn quickly.
Nope…I’m pretty satisfied with the 10 megapixels I’m getting out of my camera. As far as I’m concerned, unless you’re going to plaster the side of a building with your picture, the megapixel wars–like their predecessor, the megahertz wars–are pretty much over.
I found this the other day in some of my old notes from one of Pastor Paul’s sermons. It struck me as pretty interesting.
- Everything has a purpose.
- Where purpose is unknown or unused, it will be abused.
- If you want to know the purpose of a thing, don’t ask the thing.
- Purpose is only found in the mind of the creator.
- Purpose is the key to fulfillment.
I don’t remember when he said it, it’s probably been a year or so. I just remember that he was using it in the context of us as human beings relative to God. I think the third and fourth points struck me as the most paradigm-shifting.
Think about it in relation to us as creators and creative beings. When we create something, e.g., tools, furniture, electronics, literature, art, etc., the purpose is not intrinsic to the created, but extrinsic from the creator. If I make a paper airplane, it would not make sense for an observer to ask the airplane (the created) why it was made (its purpose). The observer must come back to me (the creator) and ask why I created it. And it would certainly be my prerogative to have a myriad of reasons why I created it. Maybe it was for fun. Maybe for a school project. Maybe because I was bored. But the purpose could not be found within the “mind” of the airplane if it had one. No. The purpose would be within the mind of the creator–me.
The same is true of us and God. We, the Created cannot formulate our purpose on our own. We have to look to our Creator, God, to find that. To pontificate our purpose on our own, in the absence of God, is nonsense. He created us, so it’s only within His mind that our purpose can be defined.
Anyways, just a little philosophical musings for your Monday morning.
You, the end user, shouldn’t notice anything, but this weekend, I upgraded my version of WordPress from 2.3.3 to the brand, spankin’ new version 2.5, released on March 29. A number of the new features are detailed here. In any case, it doesn’t really matter. But Step 3 of the Upgrade Instructions said I should do something nice for myself like writing a blog post about the upgrade. So here I am, writing about the upgrade
Yes, it only took me a couple more days since that last post to get this out the door. For your viewing pleasure in reverse chronological order, I present
