October is Flying By

October 21st, 2009

I can’t believe it’s already been two weeks since my last post. The days just seem to fly by. I can hardly believe Charlene and I have been married 236 days–nearly 8 months.

But here’s what’s been running through my mind the past few weeks. It’s a random stream of consciousness, so proceed at your own peril.

  • K-LOVE is running their pledge drive again. Charlene and I have been blessed by their ministry, and have decided to become supporters. Have you considered supporting them?
  • Today is the official release of Windows 7. This is Microsoft’s next generation operating system. From what I hear, it’s what Vista should have been back in January 2007. I don’t see it as a revolutionary operating system. More like the next step in the evolution of Windows. If it had features like WinFS that Vista was supposed to have, then I would consider it revolutionary, but alas it does not.
  • Apple released it’s earnings on Monday, and blew everyone away. As an investor, I’ve been quite happy with their stock. It’s gone from under $80 in January to over $204 today. That’s an all-time high for the stock. The stock’s record intraday high was $202.96 on December 27, 2007. Boy, do I wish I bought more stock at $80.
  • Verizon and Motorola are preparing for the launch of the Droid. The sad thing is that this likely means the iPhone won’t be coming to Verizon any time soon. Bummer. But maybe Droid will be better…maybe.
  • The venerable Canon EOS-1D Mark III has been updated and replaced by the all new EOS-1D Mark IV. This one does 16.1 megapixels at 10 fps, and shoots full 1080p video. Amazing!
  • I’ve been reading Bill Hybels’ book, Axiom: Powerful Leadership Proverbs. It’s a great book on leadership. Each section contains a leadership principle, an Axiom so to speak, and usually a vignette or further explanation. Since each section is technically it’s own summary, it’s really hard to summarize the concepts laid out in the book except to say that they’re all axioms that Bill Hybels has developed over his decades of leadership at Willow Creek Community Church. I’ll definitely have to have a follow up post on this.
  • I recently purchased The Bible Experience for Charlene. It’s a dramatized version of the entire Bible. That’s right, all 66 books! And we’re not talking those boring, monotone Bible readings on tape–it’s complete with sound effects, a musical score, and voice acting. Think movie version of the Bible without the visual portion. So Charlene and I have been listening to a few chapters of the Bible over the past few nights. We’re already up to Genesis 22 after only 3 nights of listening. It’s been fun. I think we plan to make it a part of our nightly routine.

I think that’s enough for now. I’m starting to get long winded rather than the original stream of consciousness that I originally envisioned. I’m not making any promises, but look for future postings on some (maybe all) of these topics in the future.
