The Blind Side
Charlene and I went to see The Blind Side on Saturday. This post is on my thoughts about the movie. I hate to over-inflate other people’s expectations by incessantly extolling the virtues of any given movie, so unless you’ve already seen the movie this should suffice: You should go see it.
Otherwise, click to read more.
It was a really great movie! It’s hard for me to qualify exactly what it was about the movie that I enjoyed so much, but in the words of my Uncle Danny, “it’s a movie with heart.” Another phrase I could use to describe it is that it’s “a feel-good movie.” I walked out of the theater with a smile on my face, and I’ve probably commented to Charlene a dozen times since then, “that was a great movie.”
I think one of the things that I appreciated most about the movie was that it’s what I would call a “clean movie.” Granted my definition of “clean” might not be the same as yours, so I’ll lay it out for you: It did have some drugs, foul language, and violence, but it didn’t have any sex. I don’t mind drugs, foul langauge, or violence. But I don’t like it when movies have sex in them. A kiss or a hug are fine, but much more than that, and I’m not so appreciative. Brothers, can I get an amen?
Anyways, I really appreciated the fact that there wasn’t any sex, or any gratuitous romance. Leigh Anne (Sandra Bullock) and Sean Tuohy (Tim McGraw) are clearly in love in the movie, but that’s OK because they’re husband and wife.
I love how the Tuohys are unabashedly Christian in the movie, as in real life. Leigh Anne always wears a cross around her neck, and the family prays before a meal. They’re also very conservative–the tutor they hire for Michael is a closet-Democrat in the middle of a definitively Red state.
Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) is a total teddy bear. He’s huge, but oh-so-lovable. He’s soft spoken, and it’s really hard not to sympathize with his situation and background.
Those are just a few of my thoughts. I’ll post more if I get around to it, but the net conclusion isn’t any different than the one above: You should go see it.
I’m glad you saw this movie B and had the same feelings I did about it.
